To be on top of a search engine ranking is the goal of most websites. A search engine ranking’s main purpose is to separate the more improved websites from the junk websites. This is primarily done by the search engines to provide their users with appropriate and significant results as well as quality content. To be set apart from the herd and to stand out among the millions of websites, a website owner has to think of ways to gain link popularity. Link popularity is a very vital factor used by search engines to determine the rank of a webpage. Link popularity is measured by the number of links made by other websites to your website. Why is it so important to have link popularity and why would website owners want to make it to the top as far as search engine ranking is concerned? The most obvious reason for this is that the higher the ranking, the more traffic the search engine is sending your way. If your website’s primary purpose is to promote an online business, think of the saving you can make on your advertising budget because of the potential clients the search engine is sending your way.Link building or link popularity can be effectively achieved through the link bait strategy. A website who can not create links naturally must try to make use of the link bait idea. Link bait is an effective tool to increase traffic in your website. More often than not, link bait is a part of a search engine optimization plan. Link bait is any feature or content in a website that attracts or lures other websites to link to that particular website. Link bait should be interesting enough to catch other people’s attention and to entice them to make a link.

For a link bait to be successful and to get the expected result of generating more traffic, a link baiter can make use of several hooks. Link baiting can take the form of news, informational, humor, contrary and fear contents.

News hook – making your site the source of news tidbits and fresh information is one way of generating the much coveted traffic. Being the first to make a scoop on a current event will entice other webmasters to make a link to your website. News readers will turn to your website every time they want to know what is happening around the community and around the world.

Informational hook – the internet is an easy, fast and inexpensive means of access to information. Providing this useful information will encourage readers to make a link.

Humor hook – many people are looking for an outlet to break the daily routine. By providing jokes, funny stories and videos readers will be enticed to click on your site. Surfers will come back often in the hope of finding amusing content and will click on a link referenced link to see if other funny things are provided as well.

Evil hook- negative or mean statement about a person or a product will encourage a reader to click on a link to verify the validity of the statement.

Fear hook – is possibly the most effective link bait. A headline that stimulates the fear of the reader will have the effect of an influx of traffic. Readers will click on links to search for explanations.

Link bait may generate the desired traffic until your server crashes but after all is said and done, good quality content will push a website to the top of a search engine ranking.

Today I was hunting down all the automated blogs that would copy my articles/content without permission. I either reported the blog to its hosting/domain provider, or contacted the owner of the blog which is very rare, since these blogs are automated and have no contact page/email.

Anyway, one of these blogs is a free blog from blogger.com, so I went on and reported it. The response was very fast so I think its an auto responder for copyright infringement cases.

    …………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
    Hi there,

Thank you for your note. It is our policy to respond to notices of alleged infringement that comply with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (the text of which can be found at the U.S. Copyright Office website: http://lcWeb.loc.gov/copyright/ and other applicable intellectual property laws, which may include removing or disabling access to material claimed to be the subject of infringing activity. To file a notice of infringement with us, you must provide a written communication (by fax or regular mail, not by email) that sets forth the items specified below. Please note that pursuant to that Act, you may be liable to the alleged infringer for damages (including costs and attorneys’ fees) if you materially misrepresent that you own an item when you in fact do not. Indeed, in a recent case (please see http://www.onlinepolicy.org/action/legpolicy/opg_v_diebold/ for more information), a company that sent an infringement notification seeking removal of online materials that were protected by the fair use doctrine was ordered to pay such costs and attorneys fees. The company agreed to pay over $100,000. Accordingly, if you are not sure whether material available online infringes your copyright, we suggest that you first contact an attorney.

To expedite our ability to process your request, please use the following format (including section numbers):

1. Identify in sufficient detail the copyrighted work that you believe has been infringed upon. This must include identification of specific posts, as opposed to entire sites. Posts must be referenced by either the dates in which they appear or the permalink of the post. For example,
http://example.blogspot.com/archives/2003_01_21_example_archive.html#2104575

2. Identify the material that you claim is infringing upon the copyrighted work listed in item #1 above.

YOU MUST IDENTIFY EACH POST BY PERMALINK OR DATE THAT ALLEGEDLY CONTAINS INFRINGING MATERIAL. The permalink for a post is usually found by clicking on the timestamp of the post.

3. Provide information reasonably sufficient to permit Blogger to contact you (email address is preferred).

4. Include the following statement: “I have a good faith belief that use of the copyrighted materials described above on the allegedly infringing web pages is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.”

5. Include the following statement: “I swear, under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notification is accurate and that I am the copyright owner or am authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.

6. Sign the paper.

7. Send the written communication to the following address:

Online technology paved the way for the tremendous growth of ecommerce. Making money online seems to be the fad nowadays. Anybody with a minimum knowledge of computer technology can try his hand at making money online. Google Adsense is one of these money making ventures.

With Google Adsense, expertise is not really necessary to earn that very desirable revenue. Earning revenue is pretty much simple. All you need to have is a website where you can display other people’s advertisement. Google Adsense is a potential income earner of any website. Income is earned every time a visitor clicks on the ads.

However, you may wonder why other website owners earn hundreds of dollars every day while others earn a paltry sum. Could it be luck? Or could it be because those profitable websites have something that you do not have?

The success of any internet advertising campaign largely depends on the click through rate (CTR). The higher the click through rate, the higher the adsense income generated. To achieve high CTR which would also mean higher revenue, a website owner must make sure that the content of the website is of high quality; concise (no one would want to read long and boring content); always fresh and updated. He has to make sure that the content of the website has relevance to the ads displayed.

The color of the ads should match or should enhance the color of the website. At a glance, visitors will think that the ads are just extension of the website. Be sure that the colors used make the content easy to read. A website cluttered with pictures and other features would distract visitors. A simple layout on the other hand will have the effect generating higher click through rates. It is advisable to keep the number of ads placed under the allowable limit so as not to overcrowd the webpage.

The ad placement is another important factor in increasing adsense revenue. Some ads are placed horizontal, others vertical and some are even placed in the middle of some text. The most popular format though is the large rectangle. It is an effective CTR producer because these ads looks like web links and readers click on without really noticing that they are clicking on the adsense. Google suggest the use of vertical instead of horizontal ads because surfers tend to avoid horizontal ads and banners. Another rule of thumb is to place the ads at the top portion of the screen and at the right side of the page. Most people are using the mouse with the right hand so that clicking ads placed on the right side of the page is easier and more convenient.

There are so many ways of increasing adsense revenue, some useful and very effective, some with mediocre result and some would need spending a certain amount in order to earn more. It is up to the website owner to find the most effective means after all it is he who would reap the benefits of his efforts.

For a webmaster to survive in the highly competitive world of internet marketers, he needs to promote his website to attain the much coveted goal – increased traffic. A number of ways to improve a website’s traffic has been discussed and tested. Some were able to give the desired result of increasing traffic while others have miserably failed.

A few years back, another way to generate traffic was introduced – the social bookmarking. Prior to the internet boom, socializing means joining social circles or groups that shared your interests. Be it a garden club, a book reader club or a needlecraft club as long as you will be able to share your thoughts and ideas.

Social bookmarking is basically the same. It is a means of getting connected with people who share your interests. The only difference is that it is done on the web. Aside from connecting people, social bookmarking is an exciting way to generate traffic and of course a most productive source of internet income.

Digg.com is one of these social bookmarking sites. Digg would literally send tons of visitors to a website. Once your submitted page is bookmarked, thousands of visitors would rush to your site. Basically, every one can use Digg for free. You can submit as many pages of stories, videos, pictures and articles as you want. You just have to register to join the Digg society. Signing up with Digg will provide you with the chance to choose buttons that you can add to your blog posts. These buttons will allow your readers to easily “Digg” your post. The “Digg” will signify vote for the content. The article that has the highest number of “Digg” will naturally be on the Digg front page. On the other hand, stories that do not have enough “Diggs” will go down the ranks and will eventually be “buried”.

When a webmaster’s Digg link or button is clicked, the visitor will be sent to the Digg site. After logging in, the site will appear as URL and the visitor may post a message or a comment about the site. Think of all the traffic you will get and the links Digg will point back to your site. Your web traffic will surely be increased every time visitors log into Digg. Backlinks is a very effective traffic generator.

Signing up with Digg will be very profitable to a webmaster’s business venture. Because Digg pages almost always rank high in Google, readers will easily find your submitted pages and will click on your website thus generating instant traffic. Digg, as a social bookmarking site will give the webmaster the chance to get connected with other people with the same interests, a reputation of being specialized in a certain subject is developed by spreading his message to peers. Aside from increasing traffic, this is also a way of reaching out to potential customers.

Digg, com is a social bookmarking site that a webmaster would choose to promote his website and to increase web traffic. Any smart webmaster would know that good web traffic is tantamount to big earnings and profit.

A decade or so ago, a successful online business is an impossible feat for most people. People like me who have very little technical knowledge of computers and the workings of the internet would never dream of using it as a source of additional income. Building a profitable online business is beyond my imagination.

The internet marketing boom, however, made building an online business within the reach of most people. Marketing tools and programs that ensure the success of any online business are made available to online entrepreneurs. Along with this internet marketing craze is the affiliate marketing revolution.

The popularity of affiliate marketing is growing day by day. Never before has the work at home opportunity been so talked and raved about. People are now using the internet to earn additional income and others are using the web as their main source of income. Affiliate marketing can be simply explained as promoting somebody else’s business in your own website in exchange for a certain percentage of the generated sale. In effect, you are a partner of the business entrepreneur and your sole responsibility is to promote his products online.

On the part of a merchant, the most important feature of affiliate marketing is the remarkable exposure he will get just by choosing the right affiliate marketers. Promoting his products in thousands of websites is easily done at a fraction of the advertising cost if he has to do the promotion himself. Moreover, with affiliate marketing, the need for a pretty big work force and sizeable operational expenses is eliminated thus reducing investment. An affiliate program is one of the easiest ways to maximize profits. A merchant would only have to supply the link, decide on the amount of the commission and presto! Be on the way to success.

A website owner, just like the merchant would also derive benefits from affiliate marketing. Just like a silent or passive partner, a website owner or in this case the affiliate marketer does not have to bear overhead cost nor any other cost for that matter since most affiliate programs are free. Also it is not necessary to stock the products promoted since in the event of actual sale, the customer is sent to the merchant or to the vendor of the product. To maximize earnings, the affiliate marketer can run several affiliate programs for various clients from a single website.

The affiliate marketer’s foremost duty is to see to it that the sites are visited by potential customers and that these visitors will be turned into paying customers-meaning the visitors will be encouraged to buy. Using the pay per click program is a sure way of directing visitors to the site. Google Adwords is one of these pay per click programs that will certainly pull in visitors with their cleverly written ads.

With the boom in the internet business, the most effective affiliate marketing technique on hand and people with high ranking websites as far as SEO is concerned, affiliate marketing can be very profitable and a good source monthly income for anybody who would wish to venture in any online business.

Google pagerank has become one of the most important factors, to determine how valuable is a web site. Many webmasters no longer care if your ranking well in SERP’s or not, or even if you have high amount of daily traffic. All they care about is your web site pagerank and how much your charging per link.

Google pagerank is not only a tool to measure the importance of a web site, it has also become a symbol for almost all webmasters. The more pagerank your web site has, the more respect you get from other webmasters. In fact, if you have pagerank 7 or higher, you will start getting hundreds of natural backlinks talking about your high pagerank !

As of today, it has been 116 days since the last pagerank update and the new update should have been weeks ago which means its VERY late. I can see alot of webmasters starting to go crazy on forums and blogs. Some of them posted that they check their pagerank every 10 minutes hoping for a change, they’re having a hard time sleeping and can’t concentrate on their work anymore ! Google pagerank has become more like a black hole, if you get sucked on it, there is little hope of saving you.

You should go back to the start and think it all over again. Almost all of us work online to earn some extra money, for that  you will need targeted traffic coming to your web site to sell your products/services, in order to get targeted traffic, you will need good rankings in the major search engines. Which means you need unique content and quality backlinks from related web sites.

This is the proccess that we all follow and its no big secret. My question for you is, where the hell do you see the words “Google Pagerank” in this plan/proccess !?

Google pagerank is only important to those who sell/exchange links. Its also important for seo companies, in order to show their clients that they’re good at what they do. Other than that, it has no importance at all. My advice for you is not to worry much about your google pagerank and concentrate more on your web site products and content.

Have you ever thought what a good web design can do to your site ? After all, a good site isn’t just about plain articles. As they say, there should be more than meets the eye.

It will surely be a waste of time if you try to put up a website, have visitors check out what you got, and then lose them instantly. This is what normally happens if you don’t get to plan your design effectively. All your ideas, effort, and money go down the drain.

There are some tips that you can always follow to ensure that you have the most effective website set up.

1. Be as informative as possible. Do not simply rely on information. Instead, go for the juicy, interesting ones—those types that customers will be digging in. There are already a lot of tools to help you out with that one. You can check out popular blogging communities such as Technorati or Digg.com and see what topics people love to read and talk about. You can also use free keyword selector tools to determine what “are good keywords” these days and use them to search for interesting articles. You can also participate in forums so you’ll have an idea what ticks in their minds. Once you have a list of excellent topics, you can start writing about them.

2. Get rid of any inconveniences in your design. Thus avoid scrolling texts, blinking letters, or bold and flashy colors. For one they are irritating to the eyes. Second they are not really necessary. It’s good to have a perfect blend of colors and a great layout, but don’t overdo your design. You can use a little flash, though, and some funny animation.

3. Make your website truly easy to navigate. You can do this by minimizing visitor’s clicks as much as possible. At most two clicks are sufficient. A click is a manual action; no matter how simple the process can be, it still requires energy and effort. Nobody will surely like to dwell on websites where information is real hard to find.

4. Put variety into your site. Too much media is bad; so are plain texts. Strike a good balance between the two. For example, if you’re designing a travel site, you can combine your review with pictures of the place. It makes visitors relate to your stories a lot better than by merely reading them.

5. Settle for small-size media files. It’s true that you should have audio or video formats in your site but do limit their sizes. They eat bandwidth too, especially if you have a real-time online streaming system. This will then slow down the speed of downloading your webpage. Not all people are patient on that. The best thing you can do is to compress these files with free software available.

Web design is more than graphics or art. It also incorporates words. A good web designer should be able to create superb chemistry between these two.
