How to get higher SERP and more visitors to your site?
July 26th, 2011

SEO stands for search engine optimization. This is a process whereby a website is, in plain English, made more attractive to search engines which needless to say are today’s drivers of almost all internet traffic. More specifically, the process involves improving a site’s visibility in search engines through unpaid organic search results, hence making the site appear earlier and higher on the generated results page depending on the query described by the search engine user.
These results are also known as natural algorithmic search results and each of the search engines has its own way of calculating and generating them. SEO is different from SEM (search engine marketing) because SEM involves paid listings in these search engines and it is always indicated as such on the results listed in the page. In today’s internet business world, you are either in with the search engines or out in the cold all by yourself. Not investing in SEO services or the other internet marketing strategies for your website is like putting up a very nice shop with all the right principles of business, but without a door through which customers can enter inside.

Now that we understand the importance of search engine optimization, the next step, where to get good and reliable SEO services, follows. The search is not going to be for the kind of services that do not produce results, but rather for those that have demonstrated actual rank improvements on other websites. Those kinds of results bring in more visitors to the website as a result of directing search engine users to the website by having it appear on the very top of search results where the likelihood of being picked first is very high. SubmitEdge has been on the scene of search engine optimization for some time now and is referred with confidence as the SEO Company with The Edge. So, are the SEO services from SubmitEdge anything to smile about? Well let’s go through their services and see.

To begin with, SubmitEdge doesn’t provide SEO Services, they provide Dedicated SEO Services. The company puts in place exclusive SEO Services for each individual website that they work on. They tailor the services to meet individual needs that will enable that website specifically gain an upper hand from its specific competitors. This strategy appears to make sense since not all online businesses are the same or have the same offing. Therefore, it beats sense when an SEO firm puts in a lot of effort in the general optimization of a website against each and every site on the net. This is because most of them have no competition at all in thefirst place and what you will be doing now is wasting time barking at the wrong tree. While other SEO service providers use general SEO techniques that get you on the top list of every other search request, SubmitEdge puts a team of specialists to work on each website. The company has been known to conduct researches on every project, covering all aspects of that company; what the website is about, its products or services and what it now needs to become more profitable online. The outcome of all these efforts sees the direction of specifically targeted traffic to the site. Such traffic often consists of relevant and potential customers to the services and products the website in question has. That is the obvious advantage of having people who actually want or need what you offer, visit you. This kind of dedicated SEO services from SubmitEdge can leave a smile on anyone who has enlisted with them as soon as the business starts trickling in.

In a nutshell, the dedicated SEO services from SubmitEdge entails a preliminary consultation session where you as a client meet with the SubmitEdge team, and after your brief, they assist you identify all the opportunities related to your line of business. This will also involve an intense and informative research process that results in data that will develop the best strategy to be applied. SubmitEdge only develops a necessary strategy thereby ensuring cost effectiveness. From this stage, the company then gets on with the rest of the SEO services such as keyword research, on-page optimization and link building. Some of the other SEO services providers hurry through these processes and haphazardly establish strategies that lead nowhere since they have no target or dedication to a specific goal. Given the choice between such providers and SubmitEdge, it can be somewhat difficult to conceal a smile when going for the obvious choice.

A surprising amount of people click on advertisements whilst searching on Google or Bing thinking that they are the information they are looking for.  PPC (paid-per-click) advertising allows any website to appear highly alongside the search results but they pay a small price every time somebody clicks on the link to their site.  Natural listings are free and usually require SEO or mass publicity to appear there, appearing highly in the natural listings can save companies many thousands of pounds on advertising costs through PPC.  Search engines such as Google and Bing make the bulk of their earnings from these advertisements and the areas they appear can be seen in the images below:

Google Search for “SEO Nottingham“:

Google Search showing advertisement areas (PPC in red, Natural in Green):

Bing Search for “duffle coats“:

Bing Search showing advertisement areas (PPC in red, Natural in Green):

Clicking on PPC advertising can sometimes lead you to dark areas of the internet, for example “Anti-virus” type searches can lead you to malware, expensive software or even viruses when you download the “free” software. Google fight a constant battle to make PPC advertising relevant banning many Google Adwords accounts if they use practices to ‘fool’ their software. Some advertising next to search results may be useful to you, you may be looking for new pair of ‘ski boots’ for example and find a half price sale being advertised. Within natural listings will be the biggest sellers of ski boots and within the advertisements will be the best bargains or deals.

If you sell and products or services online then just relying on PPC is a dangerous thing to do and many companies do this.  If you just rely on paid advertising for your website then the only way you can bring traffic to it (and make money from it) will be when you pay for advertising.  The minute you turn off your PPC campaign is the minute when you stop making sales!

Another risk of solely doing PPC is the fact that you could be banned from Google Adwords (some accounts have been banned by accident) or your competitors can out-bid you and push your advert down to the second page of results.  The cost of PPC is slowly rising up with reports of Google making tens of millions of pounds per day on it’s ingenious advertising platform.

SEO on the other hand is permanent and that’s what we here at RealWEbSEO.com specialise in.  We use special techniques to get websites higher up in the search engines by promoting them and making the site user friendly; top rankings create masses of website traffic who enter the site 24 hours a day.  Even when SEO work is halted a website can ride on the first page of Google for several weeks from the work done in the past before dropping down to the second page.

The biggest companies will use PPC and SEO to get the most custom possible, smaller companies could start testing out their product range with PPC whilst building up an online presence with SEO.  Some of our most successful clients have used SEO alone such as LittleFish Support who used SEO to win the Google search result “it support”.

Google roll out many minor changes to their search engine results every month.
About 2-3 times a year Google roll out a major change to their ranking factors and around 2-3% of sites become massively effected.  The last big update was in May and effected long tail keywords noticed by many webmasters.

Some changes to Google’s ranking factors completely knock websites out of the search results as they used copied content, keyword stuffing or some black-hat techniques to gain position in the SERPs.  If you’ve used frowned upon SEO practices to gain Search Engine Results then you could quickly find yourself massively affected by a Google update!

Using several different ‘white-hat’ SEO techniques is the key for SEO success; if Google changes on of it’s ranking factors then you are covered by all the other SEO techniques you used.  Putting all your eggs in one basket is asking for trouble.

Keeping ahead of the game here are RealWebSEO.com future predictions for Google’s ranking factors:

  • X/Y Link position - If you have a footer or blog-roll link then these will not be as significant as a link in the header or main body
  • Text link position - If the link is surrounded by related text then it’s more likely to be useful and should have more power
  • Grammar - Poorly written text will not rank as high as well written English as grammar is useful for usability
  • Popups/Popouts - This may be a ranking factor already but they are generally hated by visitors and decrease site usability
  • Content spinning – Google is getting smarter at spotting spun content, it could hit hard soon on many Ezine articles and whole spun blog sites
  • Affiliate marketers – Selling someone else’s product will mean that you’ll praise it no matter what – this is not good for user experience
  • Forum Signatures - You can do thousands of posts on a forum and then add in a signature link to your site – these may be depreciated soon
  • Social Networks - It’s easy to get backlinks from social networks and free too – many SEO workers use these free, high PR links alone and I can see them being ignored soon

Alarm bells may be ringing for you if for example you just use spun content on your site.  Act now or find yourself in a bad situation where you lose 90% of your traffic!

If you keep getting DoFollow high PR backlinks then take a step back and get some normal NoFollow links to even things out.  If you use one forum to get all your backlinks then get some more links elsewhere before it’s too late etc. etc.

Sadly when picking a domain name for a new website all the best ones for SEO are usually taken; have no fear though as there are still lots of great domain names available…

- Exact keyword match domain names were once a prime online commodity, for example if you had a website about “Umbrellas” then the domain name Umbrellas.com would automatically do very well in the search engines with very little SEO.  Luckily the days of exact match domain dominance has dwindled in Google and things are a lot more open to people who weren’t lucky (or rich) enough to get the perfect domain name.

If you can get the perfect matching domain name then that’s great, if not then don’t worry too much just make sure your main, broad keyword is mentioned within the domain name for example WonderfulUmbrellas.com would be fine in the example above.

Recent studies have shown a 40% decrease in exact match domain power in the past year alone – see SEOMoz’s recent ranking factor slideshow for more information

- The domain extension is important for a few reasons. You can buy domain names with many extensions including ‘.com’, ‘.co.uk’, ‘.biz’ and ‘.co’. Usually the lesser known domain extensions are available (like ‘.biz’ for example) because they are deemed a lot less valuable than common extensions such as ‘.com’ and ‘.co.uk’.

It’s true that websites that use say the ‘.biz’ extension are on average more spammy/untrustworthy than sites on the ‘.com’ extension; educational or government extensions are generally very legitimate.  Google’s Matt Cutts has quoted that the domain extension doesn’t effect Google’s rankings of a website which has had many strongly opposing views from SEO’s around the globe.

Whether or not it’s bad to use a ‘.net’, ‘.biz’ or ‘.co’ domain name extension, these have three more distinct disadvantages:
1) People find it hard to remember anything but a ‘.com’ or a local extension such as ‘.co.uk’ when you mention a website’s name in person or on a real-world advert
2) Webmasters trust domain extensions such as ‘.biz’ with less regard due to the number of spammers using them, finding external links and gaining trust is therefore a lot harder
3) Most businesses serve local areas, if your target market is the UK then a ‘.co.uk’ will help a little with SEO and gain local visitor trust

You can see here on AdGooRoo which top level domains product the most spam. However tempting it may be to buy a ‘.biz’ domain name I suggest that you don’t.

- Brands are becoming more important in SEO and it’s a great idea to create one before choosing a domain name.  Brands usually have a physical location, gain natural links and people search for them on search engines, this means that brands are a good trust signal to Google, Bing, Yahoo etc. so they gain a little more advantage in SEO.

Brand names can get associated with products/services, or more importantly keywords; when you think of the brand Ferrari most people will instantly think of ‘cars’ or perhaps even ‘sports cars’ for example.  Google also associates keywords with other keywords, a function that boosts it’s spell checking facility, paid advertisements and little things such as the Wonder Wheel.  If your brand name was associated with a certain product or service then you have a double boost with both keywords in your domain name if you chose a name in this format: [Brand Name][Main Keyword].com

We have worked with a new brand named ‘Controliss‘ which sells blinds online. Google’s related search terms for Controliss now associate the brand name with ‘blinds’, it’s main keyword.  This has helped the Controliss website reach page 1 of Google.co.uk for the keyword “Blinds” in less than 9 months from scratch, a very lucrative position to be in.

So when choosing a domain name think about creating a brand and adding in your main keyword for SEO. Avoid domain extensions (also known as TLD’s) such as ‘.biz’ and if you are a local business then perhaps go for your local domain extension and also buy the ‘.com’ for future security.

One last thing to mention is dashes; always consider how easy it is for another person to remember your domain name after you tell them the name in person. Each dash in a domain name represents another barrier in getting people to a website, more than one dash makes it near impossible!  Avoid domain names such as best-umbrella-company.com, if possible avoid dashes completely, there is a strong consensus that two or more dashes will harm your SEO in general.  Good luck!

Google have drastically changed the way local search results are displayed on it’s search results listings.

Local listing are now brought out of the mini map and are now added to the main search results. See the image below for an example with the local keyword “restaurant nottingham”:

The mini map has been moved to the right hand side which covers the advertising as you scroll downwards.  Intrestingly the data used for these new local listings comes from a combination of the homepage meta and the information stored in the local listing as well as links to review sites:

Hart’s Restaurant in our example here was ranked position 3 for the keyword “restaurant nottingham” before the change and has remained in the same spot.

Another big keyword for Harts that we’re perfroming SEO on was “hotel nottingham”, interestingly they have fallen from position 3 down to position 8 within a day and are now listed on the first 6 positions on the map.  Hart’s never featured on the first 8 map listings before but it ranked better in the organic searches.  This leads us to believe that the new local search results are a combination of the old map ranking and the site’s SEO ranking.

It seems like the rules have changed for local search results which will result in many winners and losers worldwide.  Local listings have become more strict recently and Google is also cracking down on fake reviews and false listings. If you have a local business with a website then I strongly suggest you read the local search engine ranking factors which have suddenly become very important for certain people.

This change will mean that less people will be cashing in on domain names catered for local searches such as “plumbingnottingham.com“, “builderlondon.co.uk” or “weddingplanneryork.net” to name some random examples.  We’ve seen a few networks of sites all cashing in on local search terms with the perfect domain name, these site are generally bad quality and we’re glad that they are finally being eradicated.  Directory sites will be hit hard by this change too which charge for placements on the local listings within their site, will this be a big kick in the crotch for Yell.com?

The new local search results are much bigger in size than normal Google listings which will drive a higher percentage of clicks to the higher listed website.  Here at Real Web SEO we are now concentrating on national results luckily but it will be a good challenge to try and ‘out-optimise‘ the competition for Google’s new local search results, more to follow in the up-coming weeks…

Internet marketing is the way to earn heavy revenues from limited investment. All the efforts are aimed at bringing more and more targeted visitors at the client website and enhancing the chances of conversions. A website is nothing if doesn’t get good response from its visitors. Right promotion is the basic need of any online business. It’s not just about promotion but effective promotion.

A website should carry the content that is as per needs of the target audience. If the relevancy factor is missing between the users’ preferences and the material of your website then you are surely leading the wrong direction. If content of your website is being accepted by the users then you will have better chances of recommendation.

Ranks at search engines are required to have maximum site traffic. This principal is applicable for both organic and paid form of advertising. PPC management is also based at bringing your ad along with top few search results of search engines. So what is needed to get higher search engine ranks? The secret is optimization. Search engine optimization is the need of any online business. This optimization can be carried out both on page and off page.

Hiring professional SEO services can give good support to your web business. Know about the previous and existing client of the company before entering into the contract. Ethical or white hat practices should be used to get higher ranks at search engines so that results stay for longer. Otherwise black hat practices can cause a ban from search engines.

I am sure everyone who is reading this page must be aware about PageRank (PR) and its importance. Google PageRank adds value to website Search Engine Ranking (SERP). There are many other factors too like back links, website age, popularity and more which is important for SERP.

Pagerank have a range from 0-10. A site with PR 0 is least important and the site with PageRank- 10 is the most important in the eye of Google.

Google PageRank Update Schedule for the year 2010 –
Last PageRank (PR) Update 31 December 2009
First 2010 PageRank (PR) Update 31 March – 3 April 2010
Second 2010 PageRank (PR) Update 30 June – 7 July 2010
Third 2010 PageRank (PR) Update 31 September – 7 October 2010
Fourth 2010 PageRank (PR) Update 31 December – 2 January 2011

The above data is the assumption based on previous PR updates. Google Generally updates website or blog PageRank PR 4 times in a year. All these updates are major PR updates. Every month Google also do minor PageRank updates for every site.

*Well this time they have delayed the process but it might happen in the month of April. Please focus more on content than PR. They already know that people are crazy for it and use it to sell links which is not allowed.

Recently, one of my infinite Gucci sneakers-fan friends has come up to me and told me a story he experienced the day before.
Well it really attracted my attention during the whole story and that’s why I want to share it with you guys. Without further ado, here it goes:
“As a traditional practice, we the Turkish people usually leave our “gucci sneakers” behind the entrance door of our houses.

That’s being said, it means we usually do not enter to our homes with footwears put on. Unfortunately, my mate had done this at the day of the incident, too. Having lunch at that time, my friend wasn’t aware of the two gypsies wandering inside the apartment building, maybe for begging some food or money from the residents.
To their surprise, they should have seen the pair of yummy Gucci sneakers, which belonged to my friend and had cost him 550 bucks not long ago. Probably knowing these facts, they stole the beauties.

After the lunch, no sooner realizing the absence of his sneakers, than my friend cries in pain. They sent for police and explain the details about the Gucci men shoes which my friend owned. In the mean time, the gypsies rushing towards their houses, start off an argument about whom to wear the shoes first, or whom they would belong to. The argument goes harsh and they keep on fighting with each other on the street, while the stolen goods were smiling them somewhere near the street. Soon after the patrols come and arrest these gypsies as they were informed about some valuable sneakers being stolen just a few hours ago.”

My friend, then, meets with his stuff and never leaves them anywhere further away than 2 meters =).

Link building in conventional businesses might be done through public relations but on internet, it is a very tedious, time consuming and patience demanding job. Tedious in the sense you have to search all the way through the internet which websites are relevant to your domain and can be sued for social bookmarking or relevant link building. Time consuming in the sense that link building campaign requires continuous follow up from the linker as well as the website being linked. It is also patience demanding because some people are so inquisitive that they do not wait for responses.

A single delay means negative to them and they leave all hopes. However, going away from all traditional theories, link building is rather more difficult since you get a few positive responses out of many who are ready to put links to and from your website. To save time and efforts, many website owners are now resorting to directory submissions where their website is registered in the relevant category and they get more clicks and visits if any one searches any topic pertaining to their domain. This increases the visibility of your website and it also increases the network of your website since it gets attached to relevant websites working in a similar context as yours. You can submit your website in paid as well as unpaid directories but then the features, facilities and time period will definitely differ and you can avail more benefits from former than latter. Thus, the success mantra for your website is relevant link building!
